There’s something comforting about a fish curry simmering on the stove — the air filling with tamarind, roasted spice, and coconut. It’s a dish that tastes like home, even if you’re far away from the coast.
At Aandal Foods, we love meals that are humble yet full of heart — and this South Indian-style fish curry captures exactly that. Simple to make, quick to prepare, and deeply satisfying.
You’ll Need (All available at Aandal Foods):
- Fresh Catch of Your Choice – Remember, fresh salmon and red fish available at a great price this weekend – cleaned and cut into portions
- Sakthi Fish Curry Masala – 2 tbsp
- Priya Tamarind Paste – 1 tbsp (dissolved in warm water)
- Coconut Milk – 1 cup
- 1 medium onion – finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes – chopped
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander to garnish
How to Make It:
- Prepare the base:
Heat oil in a wide pan. Add mustard seeds, and once they splutter, add curry leaves and chopped onions. Sauté until golden brown. - Add the flavour:
Stir in Sakthi Fish Curry Masala and turmeric. Let it toast lightly in the oil — this step releases the spice’s full aroma. - Build the sauce:
Add tomatoes and a pinch of salt. Once they soften, pour in Priya Tamarind Paste mixed with a little warm water. Allow it to simmer for 5 minutes. - Add the fish:
Gently place the Fish pieces in the sauce. Cover and cook for 7–10 minutes until the fish is tender and cooked through. - Finish with richness:
Pour in Coconut Milk and let it simmer for another 2–3 minutes — don’t boil too long or the milk may split. - Garnish & serve:
Sprinkle with fresh coriander and serve hot with your preferred choice of Basmati Rice from our exclusive and premium quality Shri Vidya Basmati range.
